Marine Corps Jokes
Marine Corps Jokes Marine Corps Jokes In the military, there are friendly rivalries between every branch and each has its own dose of elitism. However, jokes about each of the services by every other branch are as common as grunts making fun of POGs (People Other Than Grunts). Here is a classic U.S. Marines joke. It can be told to anyone who is not a Marine. Classic Marine Corps Joke A man is driving down the road and breaks down near a U.S. Marine Corps base. He goes to the front gate and says to the sentry, My car broke down. Do you think I could stay the night? To his surprise, the Marines accept him enthusiastically. They feed him at the officers club, they fix his car at the motor pool, and they even allow him to sleep in the VIP quarters. But as the man tries to fall asleep that night, he hears a strange sound. All through the night, he continues to hear this sound. The next morning, he asks the Marines what the sound was, but they say, We cant tell you. Youre not a Marine. The man is disappointed but thanks them anyway and goes on his way. Some years later, the same man again breaks down in front of the same Marine Corps base. Again the Marines accept him enthusiastically, fix his car, and allow him to stay in the VIP quarters. And, again, that night, he hears the same strange noise that he heard years earlier. The next morning he asks what it was, but the Marines reply, We cant tell you. Youre not a Marine. The man says, All right, all right. Im dying to know. If the only way I can find out what that sound was is to become a Marine, how do I become one? The Marines reply, You must go to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island and undergo several weeks of torturous training. You will be yelled at, put down, cut down, and physically exhausted. From there you will go on to receive infantry training. You will learn how to fight, fight to survive, and fight to win. You will learn how to act the Corps, breathe the Corps, eat the Corps, sleep the Corps, be the Corps. When you finish these trials, you will be a Marine. The man sets about his task. He goes through boot camp and advanced infantry training and is assigned to a Marine Expeditionary Unit. He is sent to fight in two small wars and three police actions. Three years later, while on leave, he returns to the Marine Corps base where he heard that strange sound. Standing there in his dress uniform, he says, I have joined the Corps, and I have paid my dues. I have fought for the love of God, country, and the Corps. The Marines reply, Congratulations. You are now a Marine. We shall now show you the way to the sound. The Marines lead the man to a wooden door, where the base commander says, The sound is right behind that door. The man reaches for the knob, but the door is locked. He says, Real funny. May I have the key? The base commander gives him the key, and he opens the door. Behind the wooden door is another door made of stone. The man demands the key to the stone door. The commander gives him the key and he opens the door, only to find behind it a door made of rubies. He demands another key from the commander, who provides it. Behind that door is another door, this one made of sapphires. So it went until the man had gone through doors of emerald, silver, topaz, amethyst... Finally, the commander says, This is the last key to the last door. The man is relieved no end. He unlocks the door and turns the knob, and behind that door, he is amazed to find the source of the strange sound. But I cant tell you what it is because youre not a Marine. Sorry, there are a few minutes that you will never get back.

Heres how you can lead a well-balanced life
Here's how you can lead a well-balanced life Here's how you can lead a well-balanced life âWe donât need to strive towards balance, we rather need to work on the obstacles that are preventing the natural flow of balance.â ? A.A. AlebraheemLife balance is a mirage - the closer you think you get, the further away it goes.âHow do you find work and life balance?âI get asked this question very often, especially when facilitating workshops. No matter the topic, the notion of balance comes up all the time.People believe my life is balanced and want to know how I do it.Stop aiming for it, and youâll find balance.Maybe you feel disappointed - thatâs how most people initially react when I provide this answer. They were expecting five productivity tips, not a play on words. However, when I make them go through some exercises, they realize this simple statement has more profound implications.Balance is not something we can get; itâs a state of mind. Itâs the realization that life is not stable but in constant motion.Life is a balancing actâFreedom without discip line is foolish, discipline without freedom is insanity.â ? Ilona MialikBut what does it mean to lead a well-balanced life? Why does balance feel like an elusive concept? The paradox of balance is that, the more we pursue it, the more things seem to fall apart. Our worries make us worry more. The word âbalanceâ is both a noun and a verb. No wonder we struggle to find it!Balance is an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady. When we see âbalanceâ as a noun, we believe it will bring stability to our lives.Balance is bringing things into harmony. Itâs not something that you can get, but something that you continually do. Life is a game in which you are continually juggling many balls in the air.Albert Einstein said, âLife is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.âLife is a balancing act - everything is always in constant motion. No matter how much you plan, things will never go your way. Unexpected events always show up uninvited. Your boss will add a new meeting to your busy schedule. A friend will call you last minute to cancel your dinner plans. Balance requires being flexible - we adapt to the moment rather than rigidly stick to our expectations.Take work and life balance, for example. Most people try to keep them separate - they build walls and then feel worse. Approach life as a whole; you cannot organize your activities into separate compartments. Integrate everything you do - let each aspect of life feed off each other.Leading a well-balanced life requires to let go of control.Research shows that using control to suppress our emotions both harms our memory and increases stress.Studies by the University of Southern California showed that people high in grit were more likely to persist using failing strategies to complete a task. Also, individuals who are highly self-disciplined, rely on logical analysis and will-power to achieve their goals suffer the most when faci ng failure.Allow things to fall into place, rather than forcing them to fit into a pre-defined structure. Balance is an inherent human condition - it lies within you.Develop a balanced mindsetâThe best and safest thing is to keep a balance in your life, acknowledge the great powers around us and in us. If you can do that, and live that way, you are really a wise man.â - EuripidesAn unbalanced life feels like a constant battle. You are trying to protect your âme-timeâ against everyone elseâs priorities. You want to prevent your work from stealing your family time away. You wish you wouldnât get distracted by the speed and uncertainty of modern life. When the world around you is out of balance, you feel imbalanced too. External forces and event distract your focus - they create a battle between what you want and what you have to do.Balance is less about how we allocate our time, but enjoying what we are doing in the here and now. Whatâs the point of taking a day off if you are worried about whatâs going on at work? To overcome feeling out of balance, your mind must be where your body is. When you enjoy what you are doing, you stop feeling guilty or blaming others for what you are not doing.Balance lies within yourself - itâs your ability to remain centered in the middle of whatever is happening.Equanimity is the steady conscious realization of lifeâs impermanence; it means standing in the middle of all âthis.â You see without being caught by what you see.Buddhists consider equanimity as the ground for wisdom and freedom - it enables balanced emotional responses. The power of observation helps you stand in the middle of all âthisâ without losing your head. It comes from inner-stability.Developing equanimity is cultivating the qualities of mind that support it. Integrity: When we live and act with integrity, we become confident about our actions and words. When you make a decision from your heart, thereâs no room for blame or guilt. Acting with integrity is not just about doing the right thing, but living beautifully, as I wrote here. Spirituality: Faith grounded in wisdom is something powerful. Your spiritual practice - cultivating the development of your inner-self - helps lead a well-balanced life. You donât need to follow a formal religion. Developing self-reflection, connecting with a higher-consciousness, or practicing meditation are also forms of spiritual practices. Inner-calm: Just like we exercise to strengthen our bodies, training our mind is key. By practicing mindfulness, we can develop a balanced, calm, and focused mind. When your mind is calm, you are less likely to explode when the world around you is out of balance Well-being: Staying happy, healthy, and social promotes a state of well-being. Itâs enjoying taking care of yourself. Enjoy going for a walk, a meal, otherâs company or just practicing a hobby. Donât forget to take care of your well-being. Make time for yourself. Wisdom: Most of the things are out of your control. People are responsible for their own decisions. Events in life are unpredictable. Nothing lasts forever either. By realizing the true nature, you can see lifeâs fluidity as balance. Becoming aware of what drives imbalance in your world, is the first step towards living a well-balanced life. Freedom: Liberty is not doing everything you want, but not feeling guilty for the choices you make. Freedom is a state of mind - you can conquer your fears. When you are responsible for your own acts, you become free. Letting go brings equanimity - the more you let go, the freer youâll feel. Five tips to lead a balanced lifeBalance is not a destination, but a constant journey. You might feel out of balance from time to time, and thatâs okay. Donât approach it with a perfectionist mentality; accept the good enough.Expectations make us lose balance. High-wire artists make progress one-step-at-a-time. Thatâs why they donât fall - they donât worry about perfect; they only focus on moving forward. Here are some tips to get you started.1. Integrate all aspects of your life: Stop seeing work, personal time, and social times as separate compartments. Rather than competing against each other, they should collaborate. Removing this imaginary wall will release a lot of tension. Integrate all aspects by applying learnings across them all.2. Lose balance to find balance: Letting go of control is key to let things fall into place on their own. Sometimes you have to lose balance to find it. Be open to taking risks. Try something different. If you have to stay at work after hours, take some time off another day. Seek balance in the long-term, not in every instance in life.3. Prioritize your activities: Knowing what matters is the first step. Finding balance requires saying no to something else so you can do what you want. Most of the times, we blame others, but we are the ones that are not making a choice. Let go of unnecessary tasks, ask for help, be open to adjusting your goals and priorities.4. Develop a balanced mindset: Balance is not something external; it lies within you. When something is bothering you, ask yourself why? An out of balance context can definitely affect you, but training your mind can neutralize part of the noise. Balance is a state of mind, not a productivity hack.5. Practice journaling: Set some time to reflect. Track how you spend your time - identify the tensions and think how to make the necessary adjustments. Also, journaling is a great way to capture everything good that happens in life. Acknowledging all the positive things that occurred throughout your day, will make you feel grateful rather than stressing out.How do you seek balance in your life? Share your story. This article first appeared on Psychology Today.

5 tips on how to relax and reduce stress after a day at the office
5 tips on how to relax and reduce stress after a day at the office 5 tips on how to relax and reduce stress after a day at the office Stress experts often talk about âsetting boundariesâ between work and home. But in this day and age of mobile phones and other devices that connect us back to work 24/7/365, how is that even possible? Finding time to reduce your stress right when you get home can help you set these boundaries in a very practical way.Start small. All the suggestions below can be done in 5 minutes or less. Eventually, you can build this time to 10 or 15 minutes, or even more. But for now, just give yourself a short amount of time so that you can get in the HABIT of doing this daily. Constantly remind yourself that you will be a better person, parent or friend for taking this time for yourself every day.1. Go for a mindful walkMindfulness involves simply tuning into the present moment. When your mind naturally starts to review your work-day or settles on some problem, donât let it. Focus instead on the breeze or the trees or the sounds you are hearing on your walk.2. Deep breathingFind a comfortab le place to sit. Place one hand over your belly. Notice your hand rising on the in-breath and falling on the out-breath. Try to make the out-breaths longer than the in-breaths. Keep this up for a couple of minutes.3. Progressive muscle relaxationBy deliberately tensing your muscles first, they will relax more fully afterwards. So start with the muscles in the forehead and scalp, first taking a deep breath in, then tensing all the muscles in that area to a count of five â" and then releasing that tension -and moving on down to the next area. Pay particular attention to the classic stress points like your forehead, neck, shoulders and jaw.4. Body scanMentally travel throughout your whole body, from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. If you notice signs of tension in any area, just let it relax. Try to imagine your breath going right to the spot that feels tense and let it relax those muscles like a cool breeze.5. MeditationMindfulness meditation simply asks that you focus on anything that helps bring you into the present moment. Sitting by a brook and really listening to the sounds of the running water will do this. Sitting in a chair and noticing your every in-breath and every out-breath will do this also. No matter what present-moment awareness technique you choose, when your mind wanders, as it often will, simply bring it back to your point of focus. (Helpful hint: The minute you notice that your mind has wandered: you are back in the present moment.)My favorite practice of all is to do each step in order from 2â"5 allowing 2 minutes for each step. When you do this in succession, you will feel like a whole new person in almost no time. Remember, if a friend or loved one came to you with a problem, youâd give up 5 or 10 minutes of your time in heartbeat. So why canât we do for ourselves, what we can readily do for others? The fact is that you can! You just have to get in the habit of doing it.I write a blog about stress at my website www.Stre ssStop.com. Sometimes I tackle other issues, like insomnia, weight control and dealing with depression when I think there is a stress component to that particular issue. Iâve also written a book entitled STOP STRESS THIS MINUTE.

6 Personal Fears Holding You Back From Your Dream Career
6 Personal Fears Holding You Back From Your Dream Career 6 Personal Fears Holding You Back From Your Dream Career Are you fed up with making less than youâre worth or feeling unfulfilled at your current job? Youâre not alone. According to a survey by Mental Health America and the Faas Foundation, 71 percent of respondents said that theyâre looking to change employers. The survey also found that 45 percent of respondents said they ârarely or neverâ get the money they deserve and 44 percent believe that they are âalways or oftenâ overlooked. If youâre one of the many people thinking about a change to move into your dream job , you might hesitate to take the plunge. After all, change can be difficult. Instead of letting the following fears hold you back, itâs time to start becoming aware of them and how you can push past each one to finally create a career you love. Itâs common for people to stay at a job they donât enjoy because of uncertainty or fear of the unknown - not knowing what the future holds after making a career change can be scary. To curb your fear of uncertainty, plan ahead - donât jump in right away. Start by using a planner like this Growth Mindset printable from Happiness Planner. Use it to create a step-by-step plan for getting to your dream job, making you feel more confident and certain in the changes that need to happen. No one wants to leave a stable job and chase their passion only to be greeted with rejection. âYou donât have enough experience,â you might worry about hearing. The first step in eliminating this fear of rejection is to accept that you will inevitably face challenges throughout your journey - and everyone has to start somewhere. Be realistic about what you can do right now. If youâre making a total career change, you may need to go back to school first, or leave a comfortable management position for an entry-level assistant job. When youâre realistic about where you are and what you have to learn, youâre less likely to experience that rejection youâre so fearful of. Perhaps your dream career is with the company youâre already at - but you canât seem to get to the position you desire. Your fear of rocking the boat may be whatâs holding you back - an experience that is especially prevalent among women. âI feel most women are taught and encouraged to just go with the flow. If there is a process or protocol at work that they disagree with, or they have an alternative solution, women arenât encouraged, and often not confident enough, to offer solutions or suggestions to these things. Instead, they just go with the flow,â says Sarah OâBrien Hammond , a top recruiter in New York City. How do you move past this fear? Find your voice and share your ideas. Hammond suggests, âMen offer solutions and encourage change all the time and we need to be as vocal as men. We need to be raising our hands more often, speaking our mind and encouraging the right changes to better position us as women to be successful.â Most people donât like change and the feeling it brings. You have a routine - itâs familiar and familiarity makes even a bad job manageable . Embarking on a new career will undoubtedly change your routine - for example, it might require more hours away from your family or a smaller paycheck - and thatâs enough to hold even the most ambitious career climbers back. Rather than letting this fear of change take over, find ways to embrace it. Think about other times in your life when significant changes occurred, and see that you were, in fact, okay when it was all over. Use this as inspiration as you anticipate and analyze what the biggest changes will be during this transition. The sooner you become aware of these changes, the better you can accept and prepare for them. If youâre in a low-level position, it may be hard to imagine yourself in your dream career, for fear that you lack the necessary skills, attitude and experience: âMany times, weâll feel drawn to a position or project and stop ourselves, making the excuse that we donât have the experience or education to pursue a path that seems to be calling to us,â says Kristen Knepper , executive coach and consultant. But this fear doesnât have to stop you from moving into your dream career. Instead, Knepper suggests, âUnderstanding how your experience and education translates to a career change or promotion is key to creating confidence within oneâs self, and then demonstrating that confidence to decision makers. Donât be afraid to use transition jobs and informal experience to demonstrate your point.â This means considering how your experience can help you make the first step, and then using each move after that as leverage for the next one. Making a big decision, like pursuing a dream job, is going to be met with some judgment, whether itâs from your family, friends or co-workers. There will always be nay-sayers, but remember: that reflects their attitude and mindset, not yours. In many cases, they may be jealous of your move or frustrated that theyâre stuck in a job they donât like. Donât let that discourage you. Find a community of like-minded individuals that understand what youâre trying to achieve and can offer up support. Look for Master Mind groups and networking opportunities where you can build a circle of people who lift you up and encourage your aspirations. Acknowledge your fears and use these ideas to push past them. Your dream career is only a few chess moves away, so consider how you can get there, prepare for big life changes and education needs and then advocate for yourself with confidence.
